    Only $1.00
I was so excited to get to use one of Jenyfur's awesome sketches for our blog hop! For this tutorial I  used the Birthday Cake Digital Stamp - you can pick it up from the Tiffany Doodles store for only $1.  today I thought I would share a few techniques I love to use on my cards like stitching on your cards, adding beads, & french knots.  Adding hand stitching to your cards adds a very personal touch!  The recipient will think you spent so much time to make the card! But really it only takes minutes!   I'd also like to mention, if you want to know how to sew any stitch in the world, all you have to do is a search on You Tube i.e. "french knot tutorial" and you will learn so quickly by watching samples be sewn!!

Here are a few of the supplies I used for this fun birthday card!  I started with a 4"x9" kraft card.  I cut a few small pieces of double sided cardstock to fit my card as shown above.  I used K&Company 'Smitten' double sided paper set.  It is sooo pretty!

I embossed my kraft card with my swiss dots cuttlebug embossing folder.  I didn't need it to go all the way to the center since that part was going to be covered up anyway.

For the paper with my sentiment I paper punched it with my EK Success label puncher.  I stamped the sentiment just a smidge higher than in the middle since I knew I was going to cut the bottom off.

Next I glued down all 3 of my paper pieces into place!  I did this before punching my embroidery holes b/c I want to sew through the whole card.  I used my little doodlebug hole maker and ran it down all rows of my cardstock.  It doesn't actually pierce the paper but it makes a little indention so that I can use it as a guide for making good holes.  I used my paper piercer and a little hammer to tap all the holes to make it easy for stitching!

Next I colored my birthday cake with my copics!!  You can see the colors used below if you click image to make it larger.

Then I cut my cake out as close to the lines as I could get with my fine tip scissors.  Then I took a fine tip black pen and went around all the edges to make it look even better!! Like I cut it out perfectly!! hehe!!

It looks so much better now!! Such precision in my cutting skills!!

Then using 4 strands of turquoise embroidery thread I did the back stitch around all sides of my card and added a little bead on every other stitch.

I then sewed french knots on the paper with the sentiment!

And I did the running stitch around the circle paper!

I used pop dots to place the cake onto the card to add some dimension to it!

I used my black glaze pen to go over the stamped sentiment.

And finally I used yellow and orange stickles for the candle flames!  I also used silver stickles on the cake platter.
I hope you enjoyed this short card tutorial and I'll look forward to making another one for you tomorrow!
